Virginia RADEP Explained
RADEP stands for Reckless and Aggressive Driver Education Program. The traditional complete Virginia RADEP structure totals 12 hours: an 8-hour Virginia Driver Improvement component plus an additional 4-hour component focused on reckless and aggressive driving behavior, attitude, stress, anger and safer decision-making.
Students, attorneys and court paperwork may use phrases such as 12-hour driving class, 12-hour reckless driving class, reckless driving course, aggressive driving class, RADEP, Driver Improvement, or 8+4.

A standard Virginia Driver Improvement Clinic is generally an 8-hour course. The traditional complete RADEP structure adds a separate 4-hour reckless and aggressive driver education component.
If you already completed an acceptable 8-hour course, you may only need the remaining 4-hour component rather than repeating the first eight hours.

DMV Point Clarification
RADEP provides additional driver education addressing reckless and aggressive driving behavior. Completing RADEP should not automatically be treated as receiving Virginia DMV +5 safe-driving points.
The standalone 4-hour online RADEP course does not award Virginia DMV safe-driving points. The 12-hour online RADEP course also does not award Virginia DMV safe-driving points.
A qualifying 8-hour Virginia Driver Improvement course may have separate safe-driving-point eligibility when taken voluntarily and applicable Virginia DMV requirements are met. Court-ordered attendance is not voluntary point attendance.
You may not need to repeat another eight hours. If your previous completion is accepted for your requirement, you may be able to complete only the additional four-hour RADEP component.
